Why We Started Parents Making Time: Helping Busy Parents Focus on What Matters Most
Mar 04, 2026
Welcome to our blog!
When we started our podcast just five months ago, a blog was always part of the plan. But between learning the rhythm of recording, editing and posting episodes, the holidays and everything else that comes with the day-to-day life of busy parents, we are just now ready to launch the Parents Making Time: Making Time for What Matters Most blog.
We hope you’ll join our community here and find thoughtful insights that will help you become the parent you want to be, even while you’re in the thick of it (actually, especially then).
When we started talking about doing a podcast last summer, it quickly became obvious what we had to share. As busy parents of (almost all) young adults, we felt like we had learned a thing or two from our time in the trenches. And we didn’t learn it by being perfect.
We live in a world that is increasingly disconnected, even within our own families. For years we’ve been fighting (who am I kidding—we’re still fighting) to stay better connected with ourselves individually, as a couple, and with our three kids. And we knew that if we were fighting this battle, other families probably were too.
While reflecting on our years of parenting, I came across an old photo of our family from when our kids were one, three, and five years old. Looking at it stopped me for a moment. The house was louder then. Life felt chaotic. We were exhausted more often than we’d like to admit. At the time it probably felt like we were just trying to survive those years.
But looking back now, I see something different.
I see moments that mattered.
I see a family being built one ordinary day at a time.
That picture reminded me how quickly those seasons pass, and how easy it is to miss the meaning of those moments while we’re living them.
We’ve had some real struggles in our family, and we know we are not unique in that. During those times, we realized the value of having a space where we could talk openly and honestly about parenting and family life. That’s what Parents Making Time is meant to be.
Because the truth is, most parents don’t need more advice.
What they need is to feel heard.
And they need simple, practical ideas that help them be more intentional every day so they can show up for themselves, their spouse, and their children, even when life is messy and hard.
We know you’re busy, so we’ve tried to create a space that respects that. Our podcast episodes are just 15 minutes every other week, our blog posts will get straight to the point, and our resources are designed to be simple but helpful.
One thing we know for sure, your kid’s childhood moves faster than you expect.
Our hope with Parents Making Time is simple:
to help families slow down just enough to notice the moments that matter most, and to help YOU become the parent you want to be.
